Position Announcement: Program Assistant /Outreach Coordinator, California Indian Museum and Cultural Center


The California Indian Museum and Cultural Center’s (CIMCC) purpose is to benefit and enrich the culture of the people of California and the general public. CIMCC seeks a proactive, enthusiastic, and highly organized Program Assistant/Outreach Coordinator to assist the Executive Director.  The Program Assistant/Outreach Coordinator will contribute to the success of CIMCC by delivering community outreach and public relations for the Museum. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, adaptable, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support including mailing, scanning, copying, data entry.
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy filing system.
  • Prepare and modify documents, including correspondence, reports, PowerPoint presentations, memos, and emails. 
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for executive director and project team.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for public relations and external communications, including outreach to project partners, tribes, government agencies, and schools.
  • Manage social media channels, create content, schedule posts, and monitor feedback across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Able to perform a variety of special projects and other related duties as required.

Required Skills:
  • B.A. degree plus three (3) years related experience including high-level administrative support; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent administrative skills; extremely organized, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive with leadership in elevating challenges, concerns and issues.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited oversight; determine priorities and follow through on projects.
  • Ability to coordinate all aspects of an event including - logistics, correspondence, and printed materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, donors, visitors, the general public, and outside organizations and groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Experience in social networking and image software, page layout and Adobe Creative Suite; experience updating websites is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with California Indian/Native American history, culture, art and/or communities through education or related experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours.


Compensation:
$19.00-$21.00 per hour with benefits
