Director of Nisga'a Museum Position

Located in the scenic Nass Valley, approximately 150km from Terrace, B.C. in the heart of the Nisga’a Nation is the Nisga’a Museum. The area offers economic and lifestyle advantages. Nisga’a Lisims Government (NLG) is a progressive First Nation that has successfully achieved and implemented a thriving self-government model. With a traditional territory that is rich in natural resources, land, people, culture and strong leadership, the community is well positioned to grow through economic development activities and business ventures. 

Established in 2011, situated in the village of Laxgalts’ap (Greenville), the Nisga’a Museum has been built to honour and celebrate the legacy of the Nisga’a Nation. This landmark facility provides a home for Nisga'a artifacts, a place for sharing traditions and ideas, and a venue for showcasing a rich and resurgent culture through programs and themes for Nisga’a citizens and future generations as well as visitors from all over the globe. 

THE ROLE: 
Reporting to the Board of the Directors through the Chief Financial Officer of Nisga’a Lisims Government, the Museum Director will be responsible for all aspects of curatorial, collections and programming developments, including strategic planning and museum operations management. Providing vision, direction and oversight for the museums exhibits, research and collections development, the Director will represent the Museum both regionally and nationally building support through the cultivation of donors and sponsors. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to liaise, influence and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including museums and museum organizations, cultural heritage and tourism organizations and the community at large. With a passion for the preservation of history and a strong knowledge of museum best practices, the Director will utilize their experience and initiative to guide the museum’s strategic plans, vision and mission.
