SENIOR CURATORIAL TECHNICIAN

DESCRIPTION: Implements procedures for the federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Conducts consultation, inventory research, and report production under the NAGPRA. Serves as manager of implementation for geographic regions to be determined by Curator. Synthesizes in writing various research sources and reviews work by other staff. Defines and plans projects, priorities, and procedures in consultation with Curator and other staff and follows established guidelines and procedures. Coordinates with other Museum departments and outside Museum representatives to facilitate consultation and physical transfer of collections under NAGPRA.

Participates in maintaining correspondence records.

Facilitates use of the collection by visitors. Responds to technical inquiries about the collection in writing, by telephone, or during visits. Other duties as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: M.A. in anthropology and/or archaeology. 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Two or more years experience with NAGPRA implementation (consultation and inventory production) preferred; attention to detail and accuracy required; ability to manage project timetables required; analytical writing skills required; knowledge of relational database software required; knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) or other museum collections management system preferred; knowledge of museum cataloguing procedure and descriptive standards preferred; discretion and good interpersonal skills necessary.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 
This is a two year position renewable annually thereafter pending funding and need.
