Mary Druke Becker (1951-2006)

I am saddened to learn of the passing of ethnohistorian and museum anthropologist Mary Druke Becker (1951-2006), as reported in The Daily Gazette (Schenectady, NY) for July 31, 2006. Mary was a kind, thoughtful scholar and a friend to many, both in scholarly circles and in Iroquois communities. She kindly and quickly answered my call to write an obituary for William Fenton, offering a wonderful portrait of this leading figure in our field. This appeared in Museum Anthropology 29.1 earlier this year. Mary was affiliated for many years with the Iroquois Museum and was a active organizer of the annual Conference on Iroquois Research.

Mark A. Nichols has transcribed and posted The Daily Gazette obituary to the H-AmIndian Discussion list. Those interested in reading it can consult it thus online at: http://www.h-net.org/~amind/ or via the archives of the The Daily Gazette, online at: http://www.dailygazette.com/ .

Condolences are extended to Mary's many family and friends.
