HEARD MUSEUM NORTH SCOTTSDALE CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING OF NEW LOCATION ON JUNE 30
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – June 30 marks the official Grand Opening celebration of the spectacular new Heard Museum North Scottsdale. With two exhibition galleries, an expanded Shop and a garden café, this location for Heard Museum North Scottsdale will offer an enhanced cultural experience to the entire Northeast Valley. The current location of Heard Museum North will remain open through June 10, 2007.
Heard Museum North Scottsdale is a community location of the Heard Museum that first opened in January 1996. The Grand Opening will celebrate the museum's relocation to a larger facility located at The Summit at Scottsdale, 32633 N. Scottsdale Road. This new location will enable the museum to display more of its permanent collection, expand retail offerings and add an elegant café. The self-standing building provides more usable space and a distinct identity for Heard Museum North Scottsdale.
Highlights of the new site include:
· Two Exhibition Galleries (4,000 square feet) The new location will now feature two galleries with one long-term exhibit and one changing exhibit. The long-term exhibit, "Choices and Change: American Indian Artists" in the Southwest, is the location's signature exhibit and will include paintings, sculpture, jewelry, baskets, katsina dolls and pottery from the Heard Museum collection. In the changing gallery, which will rotate twice a year, visitors will enjoy "Our Weaving: Textiles From the Four Corners," an exhibition featuring 12 Navajo weavings from the Heard Museum collection.
· Interpretive Garden (1,500 square feet)
Developed in cooperation with the Desert Botanical Garden, the Interpretive Garden will display a lush array of native plants, sculpture by American Indian artists and a water feature, as well as information to assist in education and interpretation. Sculpture will include Doug Hyde's "Southwest Summer Showers,” a mainstay at the original Heard Museum North location.
· Arcadia Farms at the Heard Museum North Café (1,000 square feet)
Arcadia Farms' second culinary collaboration with the Heard Museum will offer its signature salads and sandwiches, innovative appetizers and enticing desserts as well as a distinctive new menu featuring Southwest entrees that represent indigenous influences from Arizona, California and Nevada. The 80-seat café will offer indoor and patio dining. Hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
· Heard Museum North Shop (2,000 square feet)
The expanded Heard Museum North Shop will continue to present the finest authentic American Indian art. The new location's appealing design will allow for expanded representation of diverse art forms, particularly highlighting jewelry and textiles.
