The Museum Studies Program at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for Director of Museum Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 12, 2013. This is a probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision. The Museum Studies Program offers an interdisciplinary certificate and graduate minor designed to provide students with academic training in essential aspects of museology. A proposal for a Master’s degree is currently under review. The Program brings together a unique consortium of UNM Museums in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Fine Arts, courses, laboratories, researchers, museum professionals, and educators in a statewide and national network to train qualified students for teaching, research, curation, and public service in museums. Although this is an interdisciplinary program, the Director of Museum Studies will be tenure-track eligible in the Department of Anthropology.
The position requires teaching anthropology and museum studies courses, supervising graduate students, contributing to one of Anthropology’s three subfields (archaeology, ethnology, or evolutionary anthropology) and program leadership and management in Museum Studies. The program is administered by the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology and academically governed by an interdisciplinary committee of museum-based faculty and academic administrators.
Minimum Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. in Anthropology or closely related discipline with a focus on human studies by August 1, 2013; prior graduate or post-graduate level museum experience or completed relevant coursework; demonstrated research in museum (collection-based) studies, or museum exhibits or programming.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with 1) expertise in interdisciplinary teaching at the advanced undergraduate and/or graduate level, 2) record of published research, 3) previous experience in museum leadership or management.
Electronic submissions are required; please visit: https://unmjobs.unm.edu/ to apply. For best consideration, applications must be received by November 15, 2012; however the position will remain open until filled.

2) A curriculum vitae; and
3) Full contact information of three (3) references. Reference letters will be requested for all semifinalists.
