Job announcement: Part-time Research Coordinator

Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum

Nature of Work

The Research Coordinator will coordinate research into the Museum’s various collections and will perform duties associated with the management of the Museum’s library.  This position will also provide research services for the development of exhibits and interpretative programming at the Museum.  This position reports to the Collections Manager and is a part-time, non-exempt position.

  • Conduct and coordinate research on the various collections of the Museum. 
  • Perform collection management duties associated with the Museum’s research library.
  • Provide excellent customer service and reference services to library visitors.
  • Fulfill information requests from Museum and Tribal staff, as well as the general public. 
  • Assist in the research needed to prepare exhibits and other interpretive materials. 
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, workshops and related training.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Familiarity with the guidelines and best-practices of the museum industry
  • Ability and knowledge of current historical methodologies.
  • Excellent organizational and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in current technologies, including desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and database management. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Analytical skills are needed when interpreting information. 
  • Capable of handling multiple projects and see projects to a point of completion.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holiday
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in History, Library and Information Studies, Museum Studies, Anthropology or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.  Candidates who are in the process of obtaining a degree (graduate level) in any of these fields will be also be considered. Experience working in a curatorial setting is preferred. Strong organizational, communication and research skills are required, with the ability to prioritize workloads and handle many tasks simultaneously. Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft software programs and add-ins are also needed. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Occasional travel required.
Physical Demands

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25-40 pounds. 
Ability to use tools and equipment, climb ladders/scaffolding, handle historic objects, most of which are fragile. Able to stand for extended periods of time.
