Job Opening: NMAI Head Archivist, Suitland, MD

The National Museum of the American Indian is looking for a new head archivist. 

DUTIES
-Serves as Head Archivist for NMAI and implements and oversees archival systems for efficient location of and access to the items in the manuscript and media collections.
-Develops writes, and implements formal policies and procedures for operational and strategic plans and policies; for all facets of work involving the Archives including the development and implementation of archival collecting plans, and establishing and maintaining systems for introducing new material into the archival collection.
-Organizes the materials and resources of the NMAI’s Archives Center by applying professional archival principles and methods of archival collections development, arrangement, preservation, documentation, and description.
-Directs staff, interns and contractors in the application of automated methods to register and catalog archival items, create archival finding aids, extract data, and compile reports.

-Supervises staff in the Archives Office by providing direction, advice, and assistance; completing work plans; assigning work and work schedules; preparing written performance plans and appraisals; recommending training to facilitate employees’ successful performance; resolving employees’ complaints and grievances; and initiating disciplinary action as needed.
